What is a “Godzilla” El Niño - and Is Your Home Ready?

When forecasters warn of a “Godzilla” El Niño, they aren’t just talking about a regular rainy season!

While a standard El Niño brings mild ocean warming in the Pacific, a “Godzilla” El Niño happens when ocean temperatures spike significantly above normal. This massive buildup of ocean heat fuels a supercharged jet stream, unleashing back-to-back atmospheric rivers, high winds, and heavy rainfall across California.

For the Tri-Valley, these monster storms can mean rapid creek rises, sudden localized flooding, and runoff issues before you even realize a storm has hit.

The good news? Being flood-ready doesn’t have to be overwhelming – it starts right in your own backyard! And Zone 7 is here to help you stay flood-ready all season long!
