FAQ Section:
What will trigger an alert notification?
Zone 7 maintains a network of stream gauges in the Service Area; real time data is available for viewing in the StreamTracker tool and is used for StreamAlert.
While staff can manually issue flood outlook SMS alerts, which are carefully crafted to keep residents informed and secure in the face of potential floods, the automated SMS messages are not monitored by staff and are sent based on preprogrammed critical water levels set for each station. Data gaps and errors may exist in the dataset and users should exercise caution. The automated SMS “new activity” alerts may be subject to errors. Data users are cautioned to consider carefully the limitations of the data service before using it for decisions that concern personal or public safety or the conduct of business that involves substantial monetary or operational consequences.
How often will I receive alerts?
The number of text message alerts is variable, depending on your alert subscription and flood event severity. During a flood event, the expected automated SMS alerts can range:
- Subscription to All gauges = 4-22 text messages
- Subscription to gauges by region (by city/town) = 2-15 text messages
The official Zone 7 staff issued alerts (non-automated SMS) may be variable, depending on staff assessment of current and forecast conditions.
Will I be able to respond to the SMS with questions?
No, SMS phone numbers will not be monitored by staff members if questions are submitted by the public via SMS texts.
Questions relating to StreamTracker and StreamAlert may be submitted via email address, StreamTrackerInfo@zone7water.com.
